Belief in the value of teams

If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together.

This quote by Ratan Tata, known for his morals and sincere belief in the ability of teams to produce something far superior than any one individual, really resonates with me. My teammates, peers, and mentors have helped me grow as a professional and as a leader.

Enabled by Teammates

My teammates, peers, and supervisors have helped me learn about many aspects of my professional and individual self that I was previously unaware of.

I learnt that the energy I bring to the group is really appreciated by my teammates. I have the potential to lead a productive and meaningful conversation. But they have also helped me see how the very same energy can sometimes be imposing or a bit intimidating.
My intention to drive discussion can sometimes make people less likely to partake in it as the points of discussion I wish to debate are sometimes heard as the final word. This means that I must be more aware of how I am presenting my ideas to a group and clearly note that I wish to debate and discuss an idea that I put forth.

Going forwards, I will make sure my team members all have the opportunity to put forth their ideas as well as openly critique mine.

This will foster a more inclusive environment where we will be able to hold healthy debates and make each member realize that their ideas are welcome and valued within the team.

By doing so, we will be able to tackle problems better and approach their solutions from different perspectives; therefore, chosing better alternatives and performing better as a team.
